Paying it Forward

Have you ever been in the drive through at a Starbucks line and someone in front of you paid for your entire order? I had that happen to me once at the Loughborough Starbucks two years ago and it made me get tears in eyes. I will never forget how I felt when that total random stranger did that for me.

Since then, I have made it a point (usually once a month or when I can afford it) to either buy a coffee for a stranger or feed a homeless person, or just a random person behind me in line. Another thing I like to do is when I’m parked at a meter and I randomly see a cop preparing a ticket, I’ll go over to that person’s meter and fill it up with quarters. Yes, I have pissed off cops here and there, but I don’t care. It sucks when you walk back to your car and realize you ran out of time and forgot to put money in it. Sure it’s only a ten dollar fee, but what’s a dollar in quarters to save someone 10 bucks? That’s an entire meal that someone will have to forego to pay that parking ticket.

By the way, I’m not trying to make myself sound like a saint, that’s not what I’m saying here. So, please don’t think that. I had something so kind and generous happen to me today that I felt it necessary to give credit to other people out there who help others in sheer acts of kindness. It’s actions like these that make our world a better place. We all need to do these types of things for others, any chance we can.

What happened today was a kind gentleman offered me a service totally free. I thought I was going to pay him; we even discussed a fee for his services. He did the work and even made tweaks to what he did to make sure I am happy with his work. I don’t know how much time he spent but I know he put focus into it, and that to me is worthy of pay.

I just got off the phone with him and asked him if I could pay next week. He said, “Ash, don’t worry about it. You’re engaged and getting married and have stuff to pay for. All I did was create a logo for you. It’s really no big deal.” I’m so silly and emotional and acting like a woman here, but I got tears in my eyes. Yes, I am lame like that. Sorry.. It was so kind of him to do this.  Take a look at what he created for me below.

His act of kindness has “re-ignited” my giving thoughts. I want to pay-it-forward to someone else in need. Who knows who that person will be or if they will even care, but I know that when you give, you always get something in return. Usually, it’s just the satisfaction of knowing that you helped someone. But, for me this time, I got this extraordinary logo created for me, for free. And that my friends, is pretty freaking awesome.
