The Many Uses of Lavender Oil

This week has been crazy. Hence the fact that I haven’t written a blog in like four or five days. Ugh, where do the days go? In this fast paced world, it can be hard to take the time for yourself. It can even be really hard to fall asleep. Have you ever been so exhausted but you just can’t sleep? You lay there and think about all of the millions of things you have to get done the next day and it doesn’t matter if you’re dead tired, you can’t sleep. I hate those nights.

I’ve learned that when those types of nights are upon me and I’m feeling overwhelmed while tossing and turning, I need lavender oil. I will double whammy the dose and put it in my diffuser along with rub it on my hands, feet and pillows so I can breath it in. It’s pretty much an immediate relaxer. Plus it smells amazing and helps Doug pass out too. He’s probably worse at the whole tossing and turning in the bed than I am so he needs lavender like it’s nobody’s business.

What’s awesome about lavender oil is that it wasn’t just discovered as a relaxant. Who knew right? This French scientist named Rene Gattefosse realized that it has healing benefits when he burned the crap out of his arm in a laboratory accident. He thought he was putting his arm in a vat of water, but really it was lavender oil. The next day, he noticed how well it helped to heal his arm. Granted it wasn’t totally healed, it’s not some miracle oil that will just heal a burn in one day. BUT, what it did do was help support healthy skin rejuvenation in a natural way and helped with the pain he was experiencing.

Since learning this story, I take some lavender oil, mix it with water in a little spray bottle from Target and take it with me on vacation. I’ve NEVER pealed after being sun burnt. It’s so great at supporting your skin. My fiance loves my little spray concoction and told me that we don’t even need aloe vera on trips anymore. That’s how well it works.

My mom even accidentally dropped a boiling pan of water at her feet when she was making spaghetti and burned the heck out of her feet. I immediately grabbed lavender and rubbed it on her lobster colored feet. The next day, the redness was gone but she was still a little sore. I/she was very impressed.

This just goes to show you how powerful therapeutic grade lavender oil is. It’s great to have around the house and next to your bed. I was without lavender oil for two weeks until my order came in and I’m SO happy to have a fresh bottle!! Everyone needs lavender oil!
