Bombe Dresser Refinish

I posted a few pics on Facebook of a dresser I refinished and had a couple people reach out about what I used to get the look. I figured I’d share everything here so I can just reference this. To be fair, I was totally and utterly inspired by a chick on You Tube who posted this VIDEO. I fell in love with the molds and the color. Plus, the dresser I had (which is really what my husband uses) didn’t fit in with the décor of the room at all. Ultimately, I will be redoing the end tables and another dresser to make the mismatched furniture look like they all belong together.

Yes, the top drawer exists, no I don’t know why I took it out and then took the picture. You get my drift though.

First, I started with wet wipes and wiped the whole thing down and made sure it was dry before I started painting. I had previously ordered Arctic White paint, Zinc Glaze Couture and Semi Gloss Top Coat from Paint Couture. I started with a coat of the Arctic White and realized quickly that I would need at least two coats. I ended up doing three because I wanted max coverage.

After that dried, I started with my favorite part, the molds. I ordered, geez like 6 or 7 molds from a vendor I found from searching on the website at Iron Orchid Designs. I also ordered 4 packs of Air Dry Clay. Love that stuff. I wanted to head to Hobby Lobby to check out the tacky glue that they have there, but we had some serious frigid temps and I didn’t want to go anywhere. Therefore, Amazon… I bought Aleene’s All Purpose Tacky Glue. Stuff works really well

I didn’t really have an idea in mind of the exact look I was going for so I just picked the molds I liked the most and went with it. You put the clay into the mold and use a flat edge to make it flat and consistent. Then you pull out the mold and while it’s wet, you put the tacky glue on the back and stick it to the dresser. One thing I did learn is that sometimes they will slide so having some painters tape on hand is nifty to stop that.

To finish it off, used the Zinc paint to add a little character.
