Oh Hey Liver

Ugh, I’m having laptop issues. This is the second Dell XPS12 I have had and the battery is bad or the BIOS is not up to date. I’m crossing my fingers that all I have to do is update the BIOS and the battery will charge. The dudes from MicroCenter basically said that either it’s the battery or it’s the hard drive. Woohoo. My first laptop died the death of hard drive failure and I do NOT want to go through that again.

On my way to MicroCenter, I saw this place that said “Paleo Raw Foods and Juice Bar” on the windows. I naturally tend to want to go and check those places out because they help keep me on track with a healthy diet. Lately, my diet has been crap because I’ve been so stressed. Which has had a roll over affect to my sleeping habits. My sleeping has been crap lately too. I can fall asleep (with help of oils) but can’t seem to stay asleep.

This place was pretty cool, they had a whole slew of alkaline drinks and snacks. I think I was meant to find this place today because last night I was up way too late (because I just couldn’t fall asleep) and began reading peer reviewed, scientific articles about stress and coffee and what both do to the liver. A healthy liver is absolutely vital to a healthy body. I somewhat knew that coffee is not good for you, and I also knew that stress can age you pretty quick. Since I’ve been downing coffee in the mornings and have been basically sick to my stomach everyday from stress, I’m probably aging myself faster than is normal.

From reading those articles and documents by doctors and such, I learned that Cadmium is produced from drinking coffee. Cadmium is a toxic heavy metal that can create problems with the immune system and nerves. It’s crazy because research has shown that Cadmium has been correlated to a shortened life span. Coffee can also inhibit the absorption of zinc which can neutralize cadmium. Caffeine increases Cortisol which is the stress hormone in the body.

So hmm, I’m naturally stressed so I probably have lots of Cortisol floating around and then I crave coffee. So I’m stressed, drinking coffee which increases Cortisol that is already dominating my body. Hence I’m aging myself by the crap I’m putting into my body on top of the natural stress I’m dealing with. That sucks.

Here’s the deal, when the liver is stressed, the body can become highly acidic which is not a good environment for health in the body. What we want is a more alkaline environment in the body because fungi can’t survive. Now, back to why the place I went to is amazing; they had all sorts of Paleo snacks and drinks that were very alkaline.

I couldn’t resist trying some of the drinks and a snack. All I’m getting at here is that if I can create an alkaline pH in my body, then maybe my body can combat the Cortisol that my body is creating from all the stress that I’ve been going through. I also met a very intelligent Nutritionist there who may be teaming up with me to do a class about having a healthy liver on Facebook. I want her to go over the nutrition side and I will go over how oils can assist in proper liver function. Stay tuned for that! It may be frustrating that my laptop is pooping out on me, but at least I found this place that helped me find something to help me with creating a pH in my body that may help me with stress. The oils have helped (Stress Away), but also eating right can make a HUGE difference!

Just as an FYI, I’m not a health care professional. I am not recommending anyone do anything. I’m just regurgitating some things that I read.  Sorry if I’m kinda all over the place.

PS. The place I went to is called Simple Science Juices in Overland Park, Kansas.

    1. Hey Eric,

I’ve totally thought about that. I actually use to have a Macbook Pro and didn’t have any other Apple products so I didn’t like it all that much. If I keep on having issues, I’m going to look into it.

      Thanks Eric!
