The Best Offense is a Good Defense

Football season is here, and while I am not super intrigued by the sport I do like watching the flow of the plays and chemistry between players to make plays happen. It’s pretty cool when you think about all of the different courses a player can take in a single play. Then when you think about how coaches figure out how to make every player work together, it’s somewhat amazing how they do that.

Doug was trying to explain to me how it really isn’t all about the offense that makes a team win. It’s defense.  Teams that play together aggressively on defense for the entire game, tend to be the most successful teams. He says that sometimes, teams play aggressively at first and begin to get the lead and then switch to passive and lose their lead.

This got me thinking about how health works in general. Weird connection right? Well, not really because if you think about it; if we spend our entire lives being reactive instead of proactive, we will end up losing. Sure, sometimes we have to think about what our offensive actions will be when sickness strikes, but what if we focused more on defense? If it works in football, could there be a slight chance that if we build up our defense in our bodies that we could win?

I think we can. Rather than being reactive, let’s begin to be proactive. Doing things like eating healthy, working out and using natural techniques to keep your immune system strong like using Thieves oil are really the best defenses available out there. Some will read this and say, “but Ashley, I get a Flu shot so I’m good.” While I’m glad you’re building your defense instead of offense, I have to remind you that the Flu virus mutates all the time. Therefore, it’s really hard to build true immunity to it just from the Flu shot. A better way is to make sure your immune system is nice and strong so whichever Flu virus comes in contact with you, won’t have a chance.

Moral of the story, build your defense instead of offense and you’ll have much better chances of winning and having better health.
