Have you ever felt like the world was coming down on you? Like one thing after the next keeps on happening and you just can’t figure out why? Well, I’ve felt like that this past week and I’m here to tell you that if you’re feeling like that right now, it gets better. I promise.
I just saw this saying and I thought it fit perfectly to how I’ve been feeling: “This too shall pass. Well, it may pass like kidney stones, but it’ll pass. That’s for sure.”
^^True that right?
My fiance and I just had a baby on June 14th. Prior to that, in April we purchased a fixer upper. By stating the words “fixer upper,” I mean serious gut job to everything in the house. The previous owner was a cat lady and pretty old. She is adorable, but that doesn’t mean her house was adorable. It smelled of cat urine in every room. When we bought it, we got to work quickly. We tore up all the carpet and gutted the kitchen and one bathroom. Since then, some things have gone smoothly; like the carpet in the basement. That ‘ish’ looks amazing.
What hasn’t gone so smoothly are these mysterious leaks coming from three separate areas in the house. Words is, we need a new roof. Do you know how much that costs…? Drum roll please – 9 freaking grand. Yep, 9 grand. Can someone please say it with me, “FML.” Our inspector said we would get another few years out of the roof. Low and behold, he was wrong.
Ok, that’s fine. We need a new roof. I’ve come to grips with that. We will be getting one super soon. Then we can finish the kitchen and live like normal people.
You know the saying “when it rains it pours?” Well, it most certainly does. Get ready for this one.
Doug and I went to KC with the baby over the weekend for a little getaway to visit his pops. We get a call from Doug’s mom on Sunday in the middle of the night>> “A waterfall is coming in through your air duct in the basement.” Huh? Say what? We were half asleep when the call came in.
Crap.
We packed up and left immediately. That was fun with a new born. We get home to our new carpet in the basement completely soaked in one area. We are still completely dumbfounded by this leak. We had a specialist come by and it seems the foundation between our garage and basement is having some issues. I’m trying to keep this post PG, but all I want to do is curse and flick off just about everything that comes my way. Because, ya know cursing at things just makes everything better.
Well, with the wonderful news and knowing that God gives us what we can handle, I’m strapping on my boots and deciding not to be upset about this. We will figure it out. I’m not going to dread on the fact that we may be shelling out more than 9k on just the roof. It’s not about asking why the world is doing this to us, it’s about asking HOW we are going to pay for this and figure it out.
We got this.
If you’re in a similar situation wondering how you’re going to get through it. You will get through it. Keep your head up, brush your shoulders off and focus on the outcome you’re wanting. You will get there. Focus. You can do it. You’ll get there. Wait, am I just talking to myself? Maybe I am… Writing and knowing that we will make it through, definitely helps. I’ll do another blog about the renovation soon so y’all can see pics.
Much Love,

Call daddy.
